With the decrease of output, partly due to the increase of labor costs, availability has become a serious issue. Traditional suppliers have advised they are out of stock. With production running from January to April, those shortages do not bode well.
TURPENTINE & DERIVATIVES
Reports from China have advised that during early March half of the southern growing regions suffered from continuous rain. Preparation to tap trees were delayed. With demand Gum Rosin still off, production of Gum Turpentine is still limited. Market price are expected to stay high. Reports indicate that for many derivatives, especially for Terpineol and Terpinyl Acetate, factories are struggling to keep up with orders. Contrary to other derivatives, prices for Dihydro Myrcenol have softened. Over production.
NUTMEG OIL INDONESIA
Here too, rainfall has impacted production. Prices have firmed.
CORNMINT & MENTHOL
Prices on Mentha Arvensis have increased over the past few weeks, and no signs of softening exist at present. With the current price level encouraging farmers, it is expected that acreage planted will be some 10% greater than last year.
CLOVE LEAF OIL & DERIVATIVES
Heavy rain fall continues to curtail collection of leaves. Any large inquiry will cause prices to firm.
GERANIUM OIL CHINESE
Crop season has just started, early oil does not meet specifications, and prices are expected to rise by end-March.
PATCHOULI OIL INDONESIAN
Indonesia is firmly entrenched in their Rainy Season, which hampers production of oil. Prices are expected to be firm until mid-end second half of 2019.
STAR ANISE OIL & NATURAL ANETHOLE
Oil from Spring crop not yet available. Pricing is firm and reports to continue to advise that availability is limited.
BASIL OIL INDIA, ANISE EX BASIL
While prices currently stable, with prices for Anethole ex Anise high, there are some offering Anise ex Basil as a lower priced alternative. We would expect to see prices on Basil rise.
CITRONELLA OIL CHINESE
New crop oil should start to be available end-April/early-May, but limited. When demand increases, prices should continue to rise.
LITSEA CUBEBA & NATURAL CITRAL
Most stocks in hands of dealers, limited offers from producers.
PIMENTO LEAF OIL
Over-collection of leaves prior to budding has caused the Jamaican government to curtail collection. There is currently limited availability.
EUCALYPTUS OIL & EUCALYPTOL
Normally the major supply region of Yunnan has limited rainfall from February until April. Due to this, famers are prohibited from starting fires, as government concerned over forest fires, so they cannot distill any leaves. Reports indicate demand has recently increased, market prices have firmed. It is expected that there is room for prices to go higher.
